The Pump starting ceremony... One thing that thoroughly defeated me! Its impossible to start that thing!! (and when you see the size of its spark plug... atleast 6 inches long - from an original Model-T Ford car!). After unlocking the door, putting on the 6 meter canvas belt, pouring in correct measures of petrol and parafin, doing a "war dance", performing a bit of Black-magic and praying to the Swamp-spirits, you crank the pump handle, once in one direction and twice in the other.. and if your initials are N.S. it works... otherwise forget it!!!! 27/12/85 |
